Does this modem/router combination even work?

Well the connection guy for the cox cable internet service is suppose to come out tomorrow... But oddly enough my dad went and bought a linksys modem and a netgear router. Does a cox provider / linksis modem / netgear router earn sense to anyone? I don't see how that works out?

Some companies call for a compatible modem brand.The router has nothing to do with the configuration.In most cases you can use the modem you have by registering its MAC speak with the provider
