Why isn't the modem handshake muted by default?
I'm talking about those annoying beeps made when it connects to the Internet.
It makes troubleshooting easer -- if you dial the inexpedient number, get a busy signal, or the line is disconnected you can attend to what's happening. If you mute the speaker, you could be getting a "this sum up is disconnected" or "you must dial an area corpus

Sitting in court, doing the waiting element and I hear the handshake sound of a 56k modem from on of the offices, lol
