How to connect a westel 6100G modem to a router?

i have verizon dsl and my old modem crapped out on me so verizon sent me a new one. although the one they set me doesn't stand in want to work with my netgear router like previous one did. my suspicions about is simple, how do i get my westell 6100G modem to work with my netgear

Did you nail both of them together. Then power up the modem and wait until the internet activity light is on. Then power up the router?
