How can I have phone connections (with jacks for my modem) without cables/wires running room to room?

I recently got DSL internet, and essential phone connection in two rooms. The phone jacks in those rooms don't work, and the DSL guy told me that I can get something at Wal-Mart for $20 which will permit me to have wireless phone jacks in each room. I don't know what it's called,
they are cast aside.
for one thing, they MUST be on the same leg of the electric service. I replace a lot of those things.
