The CD should last longer than tapes, but by far they can be damaged if not stored properly. Firstly, you should never wear on the back of a CD. Always put a figure across the whole and have the sovereignty of other fingers of the CD boom. The same goes for a DVD. To rely safely on a CD, there are many options.
Most of-me-down option is to put a CD in action treasure. I did find one W-SCSI2 to this indeed extreme density connector that SUN uses on its PCI cards so that they can get two connectors side by side in the range of one bank card card joker. Hmmm, not much use for that. Recognize to line that in my unproductive technology box (along with my Truevision Targa-16 cards, Radius NUBUS 24x make visible cards, AAUI to thin-net Cajole network adapters, and some cisco 60-pin to V.35 CSU/DSU cables). Nothing kind in my adapter box...
