Cr2032 - Batteries

What do the letters and numbers mean on cr2016 3v or cr2032 3v?

I get that the 3V refers to 3 volt but what about the 2016 and 2032?

I've got a CR2016 lying around never hardened and my CMOS Battery in my Dell Computer just ran out would it do any damage to try the CR2016 ?

They both occur to be the same diameter

They might look compare favourably with, but they have a slightly different diameter or thickness.

All CR batteries have the same technology (Lithium) and the same voltage (3.0)... but out of the ordinary companies select a different model to fit their size requirements.
